Overlooking the downtown San Francisco waterfront, One Steuart Lane is a condominium tower containing 120 residential units on 20 floors.
Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) – one of the largest and most influential architecture firms in the world – the project interprets indoor-outdoor California living within the residential constraints of an urban high-rise, combining indoor living spaces with balconies and private terraces.
The connection with the colours and light of the bay are a fundamental part of the project. The terraces overlooking the marina, the floor-to-ceiling windows and the light tones of the Italian travertine façade all combine to create a feeling of wide, open spaces filled with light and air.
The concept of genuine sophisticated comfort, the theme running through the design of the individual residences, is extended to the amenity spaces: the lobby, residents’ lounge – featuring a dining room and gourmet kitchen – fitness centre and indoor-outdoor spa suite. The design of the amenity space interiors was the work of the prestigious Rottet Studio.
One Steuart Lane has received LEED* Gold certification for Building Design and Construction/New Construction (LEED BD+C NC Gold).
*Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the U.S.’s energy efficiency and ecological footprint rating system for buildings. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, it provides a set of measurement standards for assessing environmentally sustainable buildings.
Effe for One Steuart Lane
The spa area at One Steuart Lane reflects the lifestyle, that blends seamlessly into its surroundings, which inspired the whole project. The large, bright area houses an indoor wellness area and an outdoor fitness space with a hot tub. Inside are a custom sauna and steam room by Effe/Perfect Wellness Group.
The sauna is a site specific version of Sky, designed by Giovanna Talocci, with vast floor-to-ceiling glass panels that give the interior a light and airy feeling. Inside, the large cabin is clad in heat-treated aspen slats in a warm honey tone. The door and glass panel - both in 10 mm toughened glass and with a built-in frame - are custom versions of the Tuttovetro Inside model, designed to create a perfect seal to ensure flawless air circulation. Benches with built-in LED lighting add the finishing touch to the interior, along with a wooden bucket and ladle, also by Effe, so bathers can experience the pleasure of pouring cool water over themselves as they enjoy the sauna. The energy-saving function helps control energy consumption.

The steam room - custom designed and clad in Marvel Stone Clauzetto grès porcelain tiles - is equipped with a high-power Nuvola Smart Power steam generator, which is ideal for large spaces. The generator - which is located outside the steam room - is controlled by a small touch-screen panel with backlit icons which is placed inside. With ventilation and steam distribution controlled automatically, evenly-spaced on/off periods and a sensor that detects when the door has been left open, Nuvola Smart Power offers the very best in Effe steam generation technology, as well as great water and energy savings. Thanks to its automatic boiler filling and rinsing systems, the generator delivers long, maintenance-free operation.
