New York based interior design firm Gala Magriñá Design was hired to remodel the Postlight office located on 5th Avenue in New York City. Postlight wanted an office space that felt more akin to a Soho House, rather than a traditional office, to host their events and workshops. The project had two main goals: to create a cool, functional workspace made for hosting, and to offer a space with variable work spaces that would make employees want to come into the office after COVID.
For this 4,500 SF space, the design team created an environment that was visually impressive but still fun and playful, perfectly aligned with Postlight’s work culture. This was accomplished by using the company’s brand guide to get a sense of colors and personality. This influenced the decision to use a color palette of burgundy, dark green, gray, and cream. The burgundy nods to Postlight’s primary red brand color, while still making the space feel more refined and sophisticated. As native New Yorkers, the Gala Magriñá Design team made sure to respect the client’s love of New York City by designing an office that worked seamlessly with the existing old-school New York vibes of the building’s exposed brick and wood floors.
The Postlight brand story starts at the elevator right as you enter the office with a diagonal motif painted on the doors to represent the company logo. Once you walk into the space, to the left there is a small, semi-enclosed reception area. This area is a truly “Instagrammable moment” with a monochromatic color scheme, custom designed wallpaper, burgundy carpeting, a variety of plants (a Gala Magriñá Design signature), and a neon sign of the company’s logo. The original space was revamped using remixed vintage rock posters as a playful touch for the open office. To the right of the main space is a private conference room where the design team was able to repurpose existing furniture and integrate it into the overall design using colorblocked wall colors paired with an area rug. The open kitchen area was a must-have, and features a large island that is intended to serve as a bar during events.
Caesarstone and burgundy and cream geometric tiles from Granada Tile were used for the island and countertops. In front of the kitchen is a glass enclosed cafe with custom tables with Collaborative Concrete terrazzo tops, as well as booths and individual seating for small meetings. The cafe also includes two phone pods. To the left of the cafe, the main open lounge has three main seating areas, two of which are divided by double-sided bookshelves and tall plants. On the right side is a 30’ wall that leads to the bathrooms and houses three oversized screens over a branded back wall for company events and meetings. In the back of the office is a row of hot desks for focused task work, and off the main space are two meeting rooms and the CEO’s office. To make the office more private, Gala Magriñá Design installed smart glass using technology that enables the glass to become clouded with the flick of a switch.
True to Gala Magriñá Design’s background in holistic interior design, the remodel of Postlight features a lot of plants, a layout that flows, access to natural light and colors that enhance productivity. VOC free Benjamin Moore paint was used to decrease off gassing along with furniture made from natural materials. The team also included elements like enhanced lighting in the previously dark space to help with mood and productivity. The project was completed with the objective of creating an exciting, inviting space that showcased Postlight’s mission and values.
