TRANSAT architekti completes new art gallery space in historic mill building
Continuing the restoration and adaptive reuse of Automatic Mills in the Czech city of Pardubice, Brno-based TRANSAT architekti has completed the new headquarters for the Gočár Gallery in the historic mill’s main building. The gallery is named after influential Czech architect Josef Gočár: Automatic Mills, designated a national cultural monument in the Czech Republic, is one of the first buildings designed by Gočár.

Ika.architekti builds fun and functional DIY sauna in Brno
Brno-based ika.architekti has built an upcycled sauna using an array of old materials. The project includes wooden pallets, cement-bonded particle boards, and sheep wool — by reusing these materials, in effect giving them a second chance, the architects have created a fun and functional DIY sauna.

Milada Cottage in the Krkonoše Mountains mixes urban flair with rustic charm
Situated on a hillside in the Krkonoše Mountains, Milada Chalet is a newly built cottage with a contemporary form that follows the scattered development of surrounding cottages. Designed by Prague-based architectural studio ADR, the residence is part of the small Czech village of Malá Úpa, a picturesque ski resort. Milada’s shape is inspired by the region’s traditional mountain cottages (and named after the owner’s mother and grandmother); it has a rectangular floor plan set horizontally into the slope. Visually, the cottage mixes urban flair and rustic charm, its lower cubic volume complemented by a gable roof with upper floors.

For over a hundred years, the people of Nesvačilka longed for a chapel, a place of spiritual reflection, a space where they could gather as a community of faith. Father René Strouhal, together with the parishioners, shared not only this desire but also a vision: to create a building that would not only shape the surrounding landscape but would also influence the culture, society, and heritage of this place.
