New Helsinki Heat Pump Building integrates seamlessly with the industrial landscape

The Vuosaari Heat Pump Building in Helsinki, Finland, was completed by Finnish architectural studio Virkkunen & Co Architects. The building is a key part of Finnish energy company Helen Ltd’s drive towards carbon-neutral energy production by 2030. Espoo House municipal building design features a distinctive form and ambitious use of wood

To be constructed in the Finnish city of Espoo, Espoo House is an ambitious 24,000 m2 municipal building project designed to serve decision-makers, city employees, and residents. The scheme, which results from a competition-winning entry from Danish architecture studio Cobe and Finnish Lundén Architecture Company, forms part of a larger masterplan as one of five major urban centres proposed for Espoo and stands out for its distinctive form and ambitious use of wood.  Cobe and Lunden Architecture Company Extending from north to south across train tracks, the project offers a foundation for unifying strongly divided sides of the city. The Barö

In June 2021 the new archipelago hotel in Barösund, Inkoo opened its doors. Located one hours drive west of Helsinki this hotel is situated right at the sea and the 12 hotel rooms are all located in separate wooden houses for maximum privacy. The hotel complex is planned to fit the unique environment and to have minimal impact on it. Caption Saas has been involved in the project from the start and worked with the Barö team to create a special atmosphere both in the rooms and in the surrounding areas. The lighting in the project is very minimalistic and has been installed only where really needed. Kuopio Museum extension adds a light and contemporary layer to a rich architectural context

Clad with a white, folded metal facade, this striking extension by Architects Davidsson Tarkela functionally and programmatically connects the existing Kuopio Museum of Cultural History, the Museum of Natural History and an existing library. Hovering over the glass entrance door, the reticulated façade adds a contemporary, light layer to the rich layers of historic build fabric that surround.
