Bombas Gens is an old industrial building with an unquestionable social-historical value and one of the rare remaining examples of the industrial architecture of the thirties. Its Art Deco façades and architecture make it a special, unique location for some new uses according to today needs. The new facilities have been created as an internationally renowned multi-use space where Fundació Per Amor a L’Art will carry out its three-branch activity (arts, society and research). The area of intervention is made up of two adjacent units in a monotonous office Building in Porto. The area is defined by a 10,5 by 8,5 meters rectangle with all windows oriented west and the entrance on the opposite side. The program consisted of one reception area with access to a kitchenet and bathroom and to two offices connected to a meetings and exhibition area.  Absolute freedom regarding aesthetics, in an office that will host activities connected to sports, allowed for the experimentation of various finishes and lighting options.  A virtual mesh of 0,50 x0,50 meters was created to anchor the project, in which all spaces were designed in a structured and yet fluid way. Contemporary minimalism meets classical form in this Flos Bespoke lamp, a commission to Michael Anastassiades for the luxury Italian leather-goods house Valextra. The lamp is repeated in seven identical examples within the rigorous John Pawson– designed interiors of Valextra’s Milan flagship on Via Manzoni. The company Fantini is situated in the location of Pella, on the banks of Lake Orta. The project, designed by the architect Piero Lissoni & Partners, represents an attractive and innovative example of how industrial buildings can be successfully integrated into a natural landscape.
