Set atop a mountain in Suichang County in Lishui City, China, the Miwo Hotel, designed by AT Design, seeks to create a serene abode amidst the vast tea hills and reservoirs. The striking white volumes mimic an off-white tree nest, representing the boundary between light and dark in the forest, creating a distinctive landscape in the context of the hotel's distinct geographical environment surrounded by mountains.
The outdoor courtyard in front of the structure is arranged in a circle, as if engulfing the visitors and the entirety of nature, lending the area its first air of celebration. Water flows to the entrance through the inner water system, allowing the run-off to permeate the entire space while concealing the passage of time and life. A sense of order in the light and shadow is created by tiers of stairs depicting the growth of trees.
The building's structure presents nature in its purest and lightest form with a simple yet strong silhouette. The infinity pool reflects the blue skies, creating a harmonious relationship where the two change together. The pool acts as a bridge between the indoors and the outdoors, where the transparent volume allows light to enter the underground space, highlighting the symbiosis.
In the interiors, marble is used as a contrasting material to the white walls, distinguishing the various spaces in the reception area. The top of the curved structure is wrapped by columns that envelope the lounge, giving the impression of entering a forest.
The guest rooms feature glass extending from floor to ceiling, providing endless views of the verdant outside landscape, diminishing the line between the interior and the city.
The quaint hotel offers rejuvenation, a place for people to unwind amidst the lush landscape and be immersed under the blue skies, thus, experiencing the poetics of life.
