Atelier NL was commissioned by the Eindhoven municipality to develop a new pavement stone for the city center. To give the stone a strong local identity the designers collected soil samples across Eindhoven and turned them into the stone’s colors and textures. The stone is made from concrete spliced with colors and pebbles collected from the Eindhoven soil.
For the Dutch Design Week 2019 Atelier NL invited people to send in soil samples from their favorite places in Eindhoven. The collected samples will bring together color, texture and stories from Eindhoven and turn them into a stone rooted in time and place.
Atelier NL collaborated on the project with Envisions and the team was supervised by Winy Maas. The municipality plans to start renovations by 2020. The stone was proudly presented by elderman Rik Thijs on YouTube.
