Dirk Peters, Cristiana Catino, Javier López and Monica Arango join Archello Awards 2024 jury

Dirk Peters, Cristiana Catino, Javier López and Monica Arango have been announced as Archello Awards 2024 jurors, expanding an international panel of architects and designers to a total of 115 strong. Read on to learn more about their careers and work:

Dirk Peters founded BARCODE Architects in 2009 and leads the office's research and design studio. He has extensive experience in planning and designing large-scale international projects. As a Project Architect at Herzog & de Meuron, Peters worked on the Tate Modern extension in London, W-Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Basel Concert Hall, Vienna Tower, and Roche Headquarters in Basel. After Herzog & de Meuron, he was a Project Manager and Design Architect for OMA/Rem Koolhaas, contributing to the Danish Architecture Center in Copenhagen, Qatar Conference Center, ‘Stadskantoor’ in Rotterdam, Prada Larco Isarco in Milan, and Rothschild Bank in London. Besides his role at BARCODE, Peters teaches at the University of Technology in Delft and the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture (RAVB), and frequently speaks at architecture and urbanism events. BARCODE Architects has completed projects such as Bartok, a residential building in the Netherlands.

Cristiana Catino's career began with Andrea Bruno in Turin and Renzo Piano in Paris. She co-founded Negozio Blu, where she spent over twenty years working on significant projects, including the first Eataly in Turin. Since 1995, she has specialized in bio-architecture, and more recently, permaculture and synergistic agriculture, leading to the founding of ACC Naturale Architettura in 2016. Her notable projects include the sociocultural center Workout Pasubio in Parma, Fontanafredda hotel diffuso in Alba, and Green Pea Retail Park. ACC Naturale Architettura's project Hotel Cascina Gallarej nelle Langhe was named a finalist in the Archello Awards 2023 Hotel Interior of the Year category. 

Catino's interest in bioclimatic design and sustainability led her to pursue specialization courses in biocompatibility in design, INBAR, and CasaClima. She has also explored psychophysical well-being, conducting Reiki seminars since 2007 and working with the Cerchiodiluce association on support and training projects for health professionals. Additionally, she conducts courses in bioenergetic practice and has been a certified counselor by the Institute of Somatorelational Psychology in Milan since 2016.

Javier López co-founded Estudio ACTA, a practice based in Seville, Spain. The office works on projects across the provinces of Seville, Cadiz, and Huelva, serving both public administration and private sector clients. Its work spans planning and landscaping to detailed interior design projects. ACTA's project, the new Fish Market and South Area Remodeling at Roquetas de Mart Port, was the winner of the Archello Awards 2023 Shopping Centre of the Year category. 

López graduated from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Seville in 1991. He also holds a Master’s in Integrated Projects of Architecture from the C.S.A. Antonio Camuñas Foundation in Madrid (1990-91). He has won the 3rd and 7th Photographic Competition of Contemporary Architecture by the College of Architects in Huelva. López's career also includes teaching, ongoing research, contributions to publications, and participation in congresses and seminars. His work aims to highlight the value of contemporary architecture, its humanistic dimension, and its role in modern society.

Monica Arango is a Colombian entrepreneur who founded the Dubai-based interdisciplinary studio C’est ici Design in 2017. The studio is known for its signature minimalistic style, creating modern and unconventional spaces that reflect the personality and heritage of their clients. In 2020, the firm launched C’est Ici Bespoke to address the local market's lack of quality bespoke furniture. This specialized branch offers services ranging from upholstery to carpentry, stone, and steel works, focusing on designing and producing unique custom pieces. C'est Ici has developed a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial projects in the UAE and across the Middle East.
