Atelier du Pont has built its own home in the heart of the 11th arrondissement in Paris. A clean and contemporary building constructed from wood, it is a veritable showcase for the studio’s creative philosophy and way of working. Imagined as a small laboratory, the relaxed interior is designed for reflection, experimentation, and production.
Founded in 1997 by Anne-Cécile Comar and Philippe Croisier, Atelier du Pont is a creative studio made up of architects, interior architects, and designers. Working on projects both big and small, the studio is involved in every aspect: for its tailor-made new home, Atelier du Pont integrated its knowledge of architecture, interiors, furniture, and space planning to realize this characteristic project.
Crafting a building in wood appealed to Atelier du Pont’s design aspirations and was “an obvious choice” for the studio. Raw, exposed wood augments the inherent sense of warmth, its smell and texture creating a cosy and familiar atmosphere. In harmony with wood’s sustainable credentials, Atelier du Pont adapted low-tech processes that avoided the need for air-conditioning — blinds, natural ventilation, and air brewers are used throughout the space.
The new office building has a surface area of 980 square meters and includes a spacious roof terrace. Designed in a U-shape around a planted patio, offices are organized as work hubs that facilitate communication and movement across teams. A material library, cafeteria/exhibition space, showroom, model workshop, meeting bubbles, and gym punctuate the work areas, encouraging a sense of community and flexibility.
With an understanding that the studio’s needs and priorities are likely to evolve, Atelier du Pont ensured its new home is adaptable and flexible. The post and beam structure is designed to enable any future changes to the building.
