Located in Murcia, Spain, Pa(i)saje House by Laura Ortin Architecture is an embodiment of dreams and emotions. The concept of the house derives from the landscape within a living space as translated in its name; Paisaje which means landscape, and Pasaje meaning a passage.
The project seeks to introduce the landscape into a domestic setting by deconstructing it. Drawing inspiration from decontextualized landscape artwork by Olafur Eliasson and traditional Mediterranean homes with porticoes, the architects deploy it as a macro-concept.
With two study spaces and a gallery that facilitates the creation of a new, previously non-existent balcony, the front area opens to establish a continuous daytime space while maintaining the airiness and linearity of the floor space. This area is enclosed by a particular celosia made with perforations to enhance acoustics and provide sun protection.
The double circulation allows free movement in the house while ensuring privacy. In light of the client’s love for cooking, the layout relocates the kitchen to a central position from its former location at the back of the house.
Natural materials are chosen throughout to achieve a nature free from pretence and give the space a handmade character. The flooring and furniture are made entirely of untreated pine. The polished, recycled marble used to create the stone floor gives it an unmatched vividness and a pleasant sound with each step.
In conclusion, the Pa(i)saje house represents a comfortable, functional, hand-furnished, and distinctive domesticity.
