Located in the heart Middle Huaihai Road, a hub of Shanghai culture and history, the new Bananain Concept store by Some Thoughts draws inspiration from the existing architecture and diverse cultural background embedded in the site by re-examining and then re-designing basic elements.
The 'Re-design the Basics' concept at the store defines Bananain as a brand by underscoring the importance of better functioning of everyday objects. This ideology has become core to the brand philosophy.
Throughout the design process, Some Thoughts sought to reprocess objects often seen in daily life and change the way they are commonly understood. For example, instead of the common understanding of columns as being supporting components to a beam, they have here been reinterpreted to introduce an additional functionality as means of product display.
According to the architects: The exploration between 'basic' and 're-design' is a process of re-thinking and re-defining. Moreover, it is a rhetorical question towards a certain stereotype and a dialectic of one's self-experience.
