Like the earlier work of OMA, the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, the Paris Off-White store is a feast of textures and materials. The store’s distinct different atmospheres are conceptualized into the three architectural characters of the courtyard, the gallery and the flea market.
The Courtyard
A semi-circular vestibule of corrugated glass welcomes visitors into a reinterpretation of the typical Parisian courtyard. The sober space makes a calm and slow shopping experience of the women’s collection. The walls and floors are clad with white travertine.
The Gallery
On the second floor a luminous space with high ceilings and large windows houses the men’s collection. A foldable box finished with red veneer hides a bar. The flexible floorplan can be reconfigured to host events.
The Flea Market
On the third floor AMO designed free standing display elements like metallic clothing racks, wooden tables and white travertine shelving systems for shoppers to browse through.
The contrasting combination of textures and materials set the scene for different atmospheres that act as abstract reinterpretations of Paris. The Paris flagship store is the second store in OMA’s long standing collaboration with Off-White after the Miami flagship and design of Virgil Abloh’s first solo exhibition Figures of Speech.
