Located in the Hamptons at the picturesque hamlet of Sag Harbor, Sag Harbor Residence II by HGX Design is a glass and cedar-paneled home in keeping with its quiet surroundings. The airy design evokes the lineage of modern architecture in the Hamptons while simultaneously harmonizing with the scale of the surrounding neighbourhood.

The home reflects a desire to blend old and new, drawing inspiration from Sag Harbor’s maritime history, the area’s architectural heritage, and the laid-back luxury that defines the Hamptons. With an emphasis on natural light, sustainability, and connection to the environment, Sag Harbor Residence II serves as a modern sanctuary and a reflection of its coastal location.

The geometric two-storey house is perched on a raised platform edged with grass and banded in white to match the exterior of the upper floor. A clear glass railing encloses a private deck that includes an infinity pool and lounge area.

The living space on the ground floor features an open plan and is framed by sliding glass doors that open to views of the water. Each of the three bedrooms on the second floor has access to a deck, a green roof, and a staircase leading to a roof terrace.

The use of high-end materials like marble, natural stone, and rich hardwoods creates a sense of luxury, while the palette remains neutral to allow the beauty of the surrounding landscape to take center stage. Thoughtfully designed spaces flow from one to the next, creating a dynamic yet harmonious rhythm throughout the home. From the spacious chef’s kitchen to the tranquil and spa-inspired bedrooms, every interior detail has been meticulously considered to ensure comfort and sophistication.

Outside, vertical seams in the horizontal panelling that wraps around the upper story emphasize the modularity of the structure. The volume, in effect, is divided into two pieces, revealing the design and bearing a lightness as a result.

The result is both maritime and modern.
