Specification case study: Poisson Blanc by naturehumaine

Specification case study: Poisson Blanc by naturehumaine

12 Nov 2020 Specification

Naturehumaine designed a minimalistic and refined chalet located in rugged terrain north of Montréal, Canada. The architects shaped the structure in a compact volume to reduce the footprint on the site. The squared floor plan is topped by a gabled roof structure.

The modest budget led to a reduction of circulation areas, compact spaces, grouping of services and simple and affordable materials. The result is a minimalistic monochrome volume that fits well within its natural landscape.

Wooden facade cladding - Modern Siding in Ultra White-1 by Maibec
The white wooden siding with vertical orientation is factory coated and provides increased protection against effects of the sun and the harsh Canadian elements. The Ultra White color fits well with the snowy shore of lake Poisson Blanc.

Steel roofing - MS1 Titanium White by MAC
The steel pitched roof shows no joints to add to the building’s sleek minimal shape. The Titanium White color fits well with the white wooden siding and its natural surroundings.

Wood structure by Nordic Structures
Montréal based Nordic Structured, famous for large scale timber projects like the Theatre Gilles-Vigneault and the Scarborough Civic Centre, were responsible for the gabled timber roof structure. The exposed joists give a sense of verticality and refer, according to the architects, to the skeleton of a fish.

Woodstove - F105 SL by Jøtul
The Jøtul short log burner is a friendly sized wood stove with a large horizontal glass door. The stove is designed to perform efficiently at low burn rates and is a great way to heat the compact chalet in a sustainable way.

Bathroom tiles - Biscuit Bianco by 41zero42
For the bathroom Naturehumaine opted for white tiles with a subtle horizontal grid that fits well with the overall understated tone of the design. The geometrical ceramic Biscuit tile is designed, according to 41zero42, to be brought to life by light and shadow.
