Top 10 residential wall tiles

Top 10 residential wall tiles

Ceramic wall tile is a material that conveys solidity. It has the capacity to uniquely characterize residential surfaces and volumes in ways other materials cannot. Ceramic tiles are linked to the spirit of craftsmanship and expertise: tile production is traditionally artisanal, a process of kneading and molding by hand, drying naturally, and firing via kiln, as well as linked to the land, with natural colors corresponding to the regional clays from which they were extracted. Ceramics have thus historically yielded a wide variety of tile types.

Using today’s innovative production technologies this variety has seemingly become infinite. Ceramic tiles can be purchased in many tones, shines, flatnesses, transparencies, colors, and surface textures. Glass enamel is often applied to the surfaces of raw tiles to create pearlescent, metallic, volcanic, or opaque finishes. Ceramic tiles can be silky or matt, decorated with metallic lusters, elegant textures, detailed micropatterns, or large-scale graphics. Three-dimensional tiles are also made possible using specific formworks, material mixes, and firing strategies.

Tiles are modular in nature. When combined on larger surfaces, tiles can be used to communicate consistent and simple or highly complex patterning. They are available in a wide range of dimensional formats and thicknesses, traditionally rectangular but also produced in shapes that range from diamond to curvilinear. While some products are specifically manufactured for indoor and outdoor use on walls, many can also be applied to floors, facades, and terraces.
