Located on a steeply sloping site in Whistler, B.C., Canada, this family home by Evoke International Design works to create connections between indoors and outdoors on multiple levels.
The house entry and garage are largely below grade. A large glass pivot door welcomes arrivals to the house. A ski locker area at entry-level is key to organizing the ski gear the family use most days. A floor above, there are three family bedrooms and one for guests. The master bedroom is particularly spectacular, featuring a steam shower and sauna which connects to grade on the forest side. An adjacent covered space outdoors houses a hot tub.
The upper floor is an open-plan gathering space, with kitchen, living and dining areas. From elevated level, optimal sunlight from the southern exposure and mountain views are taken full advantage of.
In terms of materials, the entire living area is clad in wood paneling, making a subtle nod to cabin living. Tiles from Casalgrande Padana, countertops from Caesarstone and the expansive windows from Aluprof S.A.
