MAP Studio (www.map-studio.it) is an architectural firm founded in Venice in 2004 by Francesco Magnani and Traudy Pelzel. MAP Studio carries out public and private assignments, combining professional and research activities. The studio works on architecture and town planning projects, feasibility studies, the restoration of existing buildings, and the realization of new buildings, both public and private.

 

Selected Projects:

—  The restoration of Porta Nuova Tower at Venice Arsenale (2006-2011), which was awarded Pietro Torta Award 2011 and Piranesi Honorable Mention 2011 at Piran Days of Architecture (Slovenia).  In 2013, this work was also nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award;

—The restoration of a Farmhouse in Ferrara (2006-2012). This project was a finalist in 2015 for the Italian Architecture Gold Medal Award;  

—The conversion of the Hydrodynamics Power Station and the Power Converter Substation for the Port Museum Complex of Trieste (2012-2014).

— The design and construction of the Tramway Terminal in Venice (2014-2015), which was awarded of the Italian Architect Award 2018;

—  The design and construction of an office building (Annex Building) in an industrial area in Bologna;

—  The restoration of Balboni House of Carlo Scarpa in Venezia (2018-2020); recently Electa edited a book about this work: The House on the Grand Canal 

— the refurbishment of the greenhouses in the Querini park in Vicenza; first part finished 2021

— the general design coordination and construction supervision for the renovation of Russian Pavilion at Venice Biennale, together with KASA_Kovalevasato Architects renovation design and  2050+ curator team. Project awarded of Special Mention as National Participation at the 17th Venice Architectural Biennale

— the design for the 7 th MPavilion  in Queen Garden in Melbourne, 2021. Opened the 02nd December 2021

 

Selected Honours:

— 2014: MAP Studio was a finalist for the BSI Architectural Award;

— 2016: MAP Studio was invited to exhibit a work at the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London;

— 2018: MAP Studio participated at Vatican Chapels, the first pavilion of the Holy See at the 16th Venice Biennale of Architecture with the Asplund Pavilion, project hosting drawings and plastics by Gunnar Asplud for the Woodland Chapel in Stockholm. Asplund Pavilion was finalist in the Surface Design Award 2019 and it was a selected project for the Big Mat International Architecture Award 2019. 

— 2018: MAP Studio won the Italian Architect Award 2018 with the Tramway Terminal in Venice.

 

MAP Studio´s projects have been covered in international architectural publications such as Casabella, Die Bawelt, AMC Interieurs, Edilizia e Territorio, BOB International Magazine of Space Design, Elle Décor, Interior Design, Compasses.
