The Body Chair has been developed in close cooperation between ONL – the innovation studio and manufacturer Hieselaar Nederland bv.

Unique made to measure lounge chair, that can be fully personalized by the customer. The Body Chair is a unique Lounge Chair, which the user can fully customize. By means of a smart online application the client is connected to our digitally controlled manufacturing process, with which a made-to-measure base for the lounge chair can be crafted. The chair can subsequently be personalized with a unique pattern of openings and premium quality finishes.

During the Dutch Design Week three versions of the Body Chair will be unveiled to the public and the website with the online design application will be officially launched. This application allows the user to submit his own bodily measurements and choose the desired relaxation position for his unique chair, to realize a made-to-measure, machine crafted product. The Body Chair is the embodiment of the third industrial revolution and the new making, in which the application of digital production techniques leads to unique new products, based on the paradigm of “digital craftsmanship”.

The three versions of the Body Chair showcase the different possibilities of the unique design and give an insight into the different finishing options that are available to the user. These chairs range from a naked version that is suited for outdoor applications, to a luxurious version with unique patterns suited for a premium design environment. The unique patterns that are used for the cushions of this version of the chair have been designed by visual artist Ilona Lénárd.
