Light is a complex matter. We all know shadows, we carry one around every day of our life. And as far as we know it, shadows are alway dark.
This is not the case for the CMYK Lamp by Studio Dennis Parren, the lamp projects interlacing lines of cyan, magenta and yellow on the surrounding walls and ceiling.
The lamp’s vibrant colourful shadows draw curious viewers to the lamp to stop and think about what they are actually seeing. Being used to dark shadows make this a very confusing experience. With this creation Studio Dennis Parren wanted it to be as far removed from what’s obvious and predictable as possible. It is not designed to demonstrate how and why, but to show that light is the true custodian of color and make people wonder about the magic and mystery of light.
