The measuring, recording and control system GANN HYDROMAT DMT- 8 measures the mois-ture content of solid wood in form of boards using a pneumatically operated measuring station and electronic signal amplifiers. Measurements are taken intermittently in cadence with a follow-ing processing machine, where the board is stopped for a short moment.
Picture left shows the measuring and control unit Hydromat DMT-8, while in the arrangement below the Hydromat DMT-8 has been installed in a bigger cabinet, together with a laser printer. The complete measuring and control system HYDROMAT DMT- 8 in standard design consists of a measuring and control unit, based on micro-processor technology, with touchscreen display for read-out and input, mounted in a 19-inch switch cabinet, a signal amplifier unit mounted in a steel-sheet box with emergency/ safety switch, a height adjustable electrode support with pneumatically operated measuring electrode as well as a connecting cable.1.5 m long.
The measuring system can be equipped optionally with an laser printer for printing out the readings as numerical values or as a bar graph. The printer can be installed on the side of the measuring unit or, at dusty surroundings, in a bigger switch cabinet together with the measuring unit. The figure left shows the pneumatically operated meashold- down device, measuring electrode with needle electrode attachment, measuring cable MK 10 and the signal amplifier box. The measuring station can be supplied for special applications without electrode support (only with a fastening flange and pneumatic cylinder). In this design the measuring pick-up can be installed also from below with electrode operated in inverse direction.
Relay outputs allow driving a sorting or a colour marking device for marking or sorting out too moist or too dry boards. For manual sorting out, a separate box with large signal lamps (redgreen- yellow) and/or an acoustic signal generator can be connected to the classification outlets (too dry – within limits – too moist). Further, a device for data transfer between the measuring and control system and an IBM compatible PC can be provided. The GANN HYDROMAT DMT- 8 has been designed for control of up to two measuring stations. The indi-vidual readings are digitally displayed by the LCD readout (Fig. left) and stored in the memory of the respective batch.
The readings are simultaneously classified and displayed as a bar graph in steps of 0.5 % according to the entered limit values (Fig. right) The admissible moisture range is defined by the entered MIN/ MAX limits entered via the touchscreen. The limit values entered are shown in the menu as dotted line. If various species of wood are processed, the system can be equipped with a selector switch for setting the appropriate meter calibration (not admissible for use in the licensed bonded-wood industry).
