The Little Black Dresser is a functional dresser perfect for storing women’s lingerie or jewellery. Constructed of veneered lightweight MDF (Medium density fibreboard), it is designed to hang in the closet or on the wall.
With all of his furniture, Judson Beaumont is always trying to do something unique. He has a reputation for re-inventing traditional objects, such as the dresser, and turning them into something unconventional and playful. The Little Black Dresser was a product of many stages. At first, Judson was observing a swing-set and thought it would be interesting to have a piece of furniture that hangs or swings. He also thought he might like to create something that had no legs, unlike most furniture. When he finally began to play with the idea of hanging it off the wall, he noticed that the shape started to look like a female figure. This inspired the idea of making a dresser in the shape of a dress, and when it came to choosing the colour, Judson decided on black so that the piece would resemble a garment that hangs in most women’s closets: a little black dress. Needless to say, the clever play on words adds much to the intrigue of this piece.
