The new Milky bulbs are a continuation of Plumen’s passion for pioneering sustainable design for everyday use.
Designer sustainable lighting brand, Plumen, has developed a special ‘Milky’ finish that allows an LED filament to magically float in thin air.
The magical filament only appears when the bulb is on. Switched off, the striking silhouettes of their new bulbs’ create pieces of art in their own right. Switched on, the delicate floating filament magically appears, creating a mysterious optical illusion.
Many consumers still feel the light bulb is yet to regain some of the magic lost during the switch to efficient technology. By proving LED light bulbs can finally capture all the magic of an incandescent, this new finish is the latest step in Plumen’s quest to convert the world to more sustainable LED technology.
The new Milky finish, the result of two years research and development, has been applied to Willow and Wilma, two original Plumen designs showcasing the latest in LED filament technology.
CHAMPIONING LED AND ENERGY SAVING TECHNOLOGY
During the switch from incandescent to LED technology, many consumers believe some of the magic of light bulbs was lost, leaving LEDs with an un-deserved reputation for being a lesser bulb. While there’s no doubt LED is better than incandescent in every regard, Plumen were always looking for ways to re-ignite this missing spark and finally end any remaining resistance to LED.
PUTTING THE MAGIC BACK INTO LIGHTBULBS
The inner-workings of the Milky bulbs are hidden from view, suspending a glowing filament in thin air.
Switched off, the striking silhouettes of the new bulbs’ create sculptural features. Switched on, the delicate floating filament magically appears, creating a mysterious optical illusion that finally brings the magic and romance of the incandescent into LED light bulbs.
A LIGHT FOR RELAXING
With its calming, even, warm white light, akin to that of an incandescent, the Milky bulbs are ideal for spaces requiring gentle, relaxing light such as bedrooms, living rooms, bars and restaurants. With an output of just 250 Lumen, the bulbs create the perfect lightfor relaxed, slower paced living.
FORM AND FUNCTION
As with all Plumen bulbs, the Milky Willow & Wilma are designed as pieces of art in their own right, without the need for a shade. The bulbs’ unusual and subtle filament constructionis carefully set inside a beautifully proportioned cut globe, resulting ina striking and harmonious design. Exploiting all the benefits ofmodern LED technology, the bulbs are also dimmable and, with a lifespan of over 15,000 hours, designed to last for up to fifteen years.
DESIGNED TO COMPLIMENT
Designed as a pair, Willow and Wilma’s silhouettes hang harmoniously in series or clusters. Together, they create striking chandeliers, casting enchanted glows from their magical floating filaments.
Co-founder & Creative Director Nicolas Roope says; “We’ve spent a long time perfecting this special milky finish. Plumen is always chasing the sublime, searching for the magical and enigmatic effects that transform the domestic light bulb into a poetic work of art.”
