4,500 square meters of URSA AIR Zero ducts in the new La Massana Art and Design School in Barcelona
• This insulating panel, used for building HVAC ducts, guarantees excellent noise insulation and low thermal conductivity.
• The Escola Massana moves from its historic headquarters in the Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu to a new building, designed by the renowned architect Carme Pinós, located in the Plaça de la Gardunya, in the heart of the Raval neighbourhood.
The Escola La Massana in Barcelona has been teaching art and design since 1929 but, since the 12th September, it does so in its new headquarters, a state-of-the-art building located in the Plaça de la Gardunya, behind the famous La Boquería market.
The new building was designed by the renowned architect Carme Pinós, who conceived a modern 11,000 square metre building, with six floors dedicated to several types of spaces, open and filled with light.
Multipurpose rooms, workshops and terraces are all held in the ceramic and glass building, which has become a new focal point of this pedestrian-friendly area of the neighbourhood. Inside the building, over 4,500 square metres of URSA AIR Zero - a mineral wool panel used to construct ventilation ducts with an outstanding noise absorption capacity, crucial in educational buildings such as this one -, were installed.
The project’s design and construction team valued the excellent qualities of this insulating panel which, in addition to noise insulation (the URSA AIR Zero panel has an absorption coefficient of α=0.8, greatly reducing sound spreading through ducts), can boast very low thermal conductivity.
Manufacture of the ducts on site, using URSA AIR Zero panels, and their installation, was performed by Digamar XXI.
