An architecture event by Andrés Jaque Architects and the Office for Political Innovation on the occasion of the Semana de la Arquitectura in Madrid.
To obtain more efficiency in the use of energy, doing what we do, has become into a priority for architects. More specifically, into a public prority that is incumbent on us to incorporate to our tasks. But how much really is One Litre Oil? And how much can we take from it? 1L Oil Banquet was proposed as a collective experience to make visible the energy that maintains our day-to-day life. After the lectures of a day devoted to celebrate La Semana de la Arquitectura at the School of Architectecture of Madrid, three big OIL letters 2,5 meter high made up of black balloons were arranged at the courtyard, close to an stage where a band played ambient neutral but festive music. The 1L Oil Banquet was started.
After a few minutes, the Agents of Transparency began to come out from a hidden room wearing black masks and T-shirts with the text ‘In this tray I carry 1L Oil’. Each tray contained black coloured canapés in which their production (from the growing or breeding up to their final production) and transport they had consumed the energy that can be extracted from a one litre oil. Some trays carried 800 grams of black lumpfish caviar but in other moment, they came out 30 kilograms of black grapes.
At the same time, a contest for black desserts made up of the energy of one litre oil was organized. The winners Gérard Bertomeu, Miriam Cabañas and Enrique Soriano, with their dessert Betuminoseína, received the most intense applause. When the banquet was finished, Transparency Agents came out wearing badges with the text ‘I ate 1LOil’, that were given to the presents in order to continue the experience in their day-to-day environment. Finally, the party finished with the leaving of Transparency Agents in bicycles and scooters, while the band played the song of the 1L Oil.
