This beautiful bespoke timber house was one of the first every built by Stommel Haus in the UK. With clear requirements on space, energy efficiency and quality, our Leicestershire clients came to Germany to ask for a bespoke design for a spacious 2 bedroom house which was to be erected in rural Leicestershire - a timber house to be built right in the centre of brick making country near Ibstock.
The construction of the house is an ingenious sandwich wall with a timber frame in the centre and breathable materials such as Fermacell, Knauf Ecose and solid 50 mm polar spruce heartwood on the exterior and interior. Their are no membranes in the wall which could cause any condensation, the interior climate in the house is fantastic.
The house sits in a beautiful 11 acre plot. It has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a walk-in-wardrobe, two lounges open plan to dining room and kitchen and a utility room. There is an open space gallery in the centre of the house giving this uplifting feeling, adjacent is the illuminated stair case. The house was erected and kitted out within 4 months and was finalist in the Green Footprint Award of the North Leicestershire County Council.
