Plot 206a was one of the last remaining large, undeveloped plots of land in the heart of the Amstel III office and business park in Amsterdam Zuidoost (South-East). The plot is organized as a labyrinthine ensemble of offices. The urban development plan introduces construction envelopes that stipulate the maximum dimensions of the buildings and their position on the plot. A building code guarantees that the buildings are of comparable quality and signature. A substantial proportion of the office blocks is hollowed out, in order to achieve the prescribed daylight penetration, sense of space and views: patios, overhangs, voids and light wells predominate. A ‘floating’ pedestrian deck between the buildings forms the public space that unifies the whole development and covers approximately 930 parking spots.
