Apartment West 65

LOVRIC AND PARTNERS as Interior Architects

The interior design of an apartment whose owner is a young world famous tennis player, which is situated in an exclusive residential and business complex, was a special challenge. In the initial discussions, the concept of the apartment was defined as unconventional in its functional and aesthetic sense, but it was expected to meet the high requirements of comfort in its use. The first graphic ideas for a completely open functional concept of the space freely fluctuating in both vertical and horizontal directions, with the floors and ceilings completely visually accessible, were fully agreed to by the investor. The designing process implied all the elements of the fixed part of the interior, as well as the pieces of furniture that were supposed to be unique and to make an integral part of the concept of the apartment.

The idea that the entire space was to be integrated is accomplished by the interpolation of a parapet free-standing wall which divides the living room from the bedroom and is completely dematerialized with a huge painting that deepens the space and emphasizes the feeling of its being on the move. The solution of the seemingly divided space and its artistic articulation to an almost virtual expression of the 'floating painting', defines it as a keystone, an integral part of the interior and the focal point of the designer's composition.

Visually uninterrupted flow of the floor and the ceiling is achieved by separating the bathroom space by means of a large glass barrier with a rotating door, which leaves the interior of the bathroom totally exposed and completely transparent.

The conceptual design of the apartment includes an open front facing the outer deck which is divided from the rest of the apartment by a multi-paneled sliding door. The glass fenced balcony offers an unobstructed view onto the square, the streets and the nearby facilities.

The idea that the living space should consistently comply with the occupant's professional needs and personal lifestyle so as to play the role of an energy generator and booster of their potentials, was present in this project from the beginning to the very end.
