Beijing Meland Club Flagship Store

X+Living as Architects

This project is the 4.0 flagship store of Meland club, China's leading parent-child amusement park brand. It is the third-generation original design theme scheme created exclusively by Li Xiang. With an area of over 10,000 square meters, it integrates over 100 fun projects and combines the "insects, ocean, land, sky, and jungle" themes to create a futuristic and mechanical "wonderful natural biology museum." Each themed space is accompanied by exclusive aromatherapy and music carefully selected by the chief designer Li Xiang, aiming to provide a more immersive sensory experience and insisting on creating a comprehensive perception experience.

What lies beneath the enchanting and whimsical shell of a fairy tale? It is a fable that revolves around the concept of space, inspired by designer Li Xiang's narrative on the conservation of endangered wildlife. In this fantastical realm, a skilled carpenter crafts mechanical creatures with a heart full of love and compassion. As a result, the extinct animals are reborn in this dreamlike land.

Caption

The designer team conducted research on incorporating the images of 60 extinct animals into the design of space scenes. We focused on including rich narrative details that not only make the game enjoyable but also have a meaningful educational impact. From the concept of space to the smallest design details, we have a strong commitment to environmental conservation. The designers hope to provide children with a nourishing experience that allows them to develop a love for nature and cultivate their understanding of the relationship between humans and the environment. Ultimately, they aim to transmit the energy of love for all living creatures.

On the basis of architectural logic aesthetics, designer Li Xiang innovatively incorporates "mechanical aesthetics" into the internal structure and artistic decoration, attempting to deconstruct the solid structure of mechanical movement and reshape the dynamic rhythm beauty with the condensed static beauty, reconstructing people's perception of spatial construction.

The enormous three-dimensional facade captures attention with its exaggerated visual dynamics. The interior scenes are compressed, highlighting the exquisite composition relationship reminiscent of artwork. The mechanical bearings create a rhythmic geometric segmentation, while symmetrical aesthetics are evident in every detail. The gentle colors soften the sharpness of the metal structure, giving rise to a romantic sense of technology. The transparent and open spatial structure extends an elegant temperament.

The rhythmic swinging of the piano metronome's pointer between butterfly wings records the beautiful moments of parent-child time and serves as a gentle reminder to cherish the fleeting nature of time. This symbolism has been carried over from the second generation design and is the original intention behind Meland brand's creation of a parent-child paradise.

As I walked into the room, a colossal mechanical butterfly fluttered its wings above the reception desk, showcasing its intricately smooth structure and providing an awe-inspiring visual spectacle for incoming guests.

The mechanical bearing has evolved artistically into an indoor truss structure and dome space, serving as the main symbol of the space throughout the entire project. The unconventional design approach brings a sense of novelty to the senses, while the aesthetic logic framework presents a ceremonial beauty in the architectural arrangement. This creates a refined and elegant space that subconsciously shapes an immersive experience akin to that of a royal court for the children who enter it.

Caption

The shoe-changing area and retail area have been simplified in their design, with floral sofas and butterfly-wing ceilings continuing the theme, allowing more space for functionality and creating an open structure that provides a sense of openness and breathability.

Caption

The designer has incorporated the wood color into the original dreamy and romantic color scheme, creating a new 4.0 color system from scratch. The deep and profound quality conveyed by the wood color perfectly balances the vibrant colors. From the rich and dramatic color tones at the beginning, to the enchanting beauty of the four-season garden, Meland Club has now achieved a surprising collision between wood and colorful elements. It feels like the strange imagination and wonderful fantasies from fairy tales have invaded the real world, subverting the traditional aesthetic's lack of imagination.

Caption

With a circular stage as the centerpiece, the overall structure of the hard decoration tightens upwards, resembling a carnival tent in a circus. Looking up, a colorful coral colony emerges from the ceiling, and giraffes pop their heads out of the walls. The exaggerated and peculiar three-dimensional installations amplify the sense of unreal fantasy, and the interconnected space feels like a magical world with different portals to other dimensions.

Caption

The seawater gently spreads throughout the venue, and vibrant unconventional tables and chairs grow from the ground, creating a small ecosystem surrounded by coral colonies. The gentle color palette and semi-enclosed zoning create a cozy and harmonious dining environment.

Caption

The placement of irregular furniture reflects the natural and unpredictable feeling of the ecological world, adding interest to the observation of the small landscape changes. The organic combination of insect wings and mechanical elements on both sides is an extension of the theme in the lobby. The composite elements are projected onto a mesmerizing and surreal ocean world through the mirrored ceiling, creating a deep and lingering atmosphere in the space.

Caption

Components made of gentle wood are used to create different functional areas. The Aviary uses bearing facades and joint scenes to connect, and the visual contrast between the two levels presents the music box of extreme poverty in front of the eyes. Between movement and stillness, the fairy tale of the Nutcracker falls into reality, and the grand sense of space envelops each player, creating an exquisite and dreamy experience.

Every day at a specific time, the amusement park has surprises in store for the children: as the bell rings, beautifully crafted mechanical birds flap their wings and poke their heads out from various spaces, chirping a cheerful melody to celebrate the vibrant and lively creatures of the world. In this moment, a dynamic and vibrant utopia is presented, filled with abundant vitality.

The designer has pioneered a fusion model of complex mechanical-themed devices and technology-based entertainment equipment, giving the play facilities in the sports technology area a futuristic touch with mechanical animal shells. Through innovative design schemes, the traditional product supply chain is iterated and deepened, bringing about a whole new transformation in the industry.

Caption

During the initial phase of the project, the designer team conducted multiple on-site visits to large-scale science and technology museums and conducted research on more than 90% of the mainstream science and technology experience equipment in the market. Based on the project theme and the specific equipment of the plan, we ultimately identified suitable technology entertainment facilities to integrate into the space.

Not only that, but the designers also need to consider how to seamlessly integrate the finished facilities into the aesthetic system of the mechanical animal device, and create a large-scale mechanical interactive dynamic with a vivid and clever feeling. From the design of giant animal shapes reaching nearly ten meters in height to the design of mechanical dynamics, and even the integration of equipment into every point and detail, all of these require designers to pre-calculate and brainstorm on the computer to ensure practical implementation.

The elevated ceilings and large creatures in the land pavilion create a magical and surreal space. The interactive gameplay offers an immersive experience. The dynamic combination of machinery brings the design to life, showcasing the adorable nature of animals and creating a space with a high-quality feel.

Precisely crafted mechanical devices are assembled into awe-inspiring giant structures, forming a unique carousel that complements the beautiful seascape and creates a visual synergy. This enhances the narrative atmosphere of the oceanarium and adds a sense of immersion to the overall experience.

The collision between raw wood and technological mechanical components creates a floating tree island, providing children with a wild and orderly adventure journey.

Caption

Even in the ancillary area, designers continue to create a fairy tale-like spatial experience for children. The walls are filled with illustrations of extinct animals, creating a mini museum-like atmosphere. The overall space is characterized by a rigorous theme. Slanted mirrors and rotating pendant lights on the ceiling, along with functional natural elements, make visitors forget they are in a bathroom and mistakenly believe they have stumbled into a magical wonderland, attending an elegant and fantastical tea party.

Caption

The designers recreate supernatural landscapes in a whimsical mechanical style, using vibrant colors and animal imagery to bring everything to life and create an energetic journey of amusement. The disciplines of architecture, art display, mechanical technology aesthetics, philosophy, and popular science education are unprecedentedly integrated into a set of beautifully complex creative solutions, constructing a comprehensive indoor family amusement park that combines parent-child entertainment, art appreciation, children's aesthetic education, popular science teaching, and creative enlightenment. It is a surreal but accessible fantasy universe.
