Beton Hala Waterfront Center

Modostudio | Cibinel Laurenti Martocchia architetti associati as Architects

The concept of the proposed solution has achieved several main goals: to improve the quality of location, extend green and pedestrian areas, solve traffic problems and provide cultural and educational functions. There are a few location problems easily solved in order to make the final product more attractive, easy to access and to raise architecture to its highest level. Historical elements, such are door arches on the Belgrade’s fortress, and the rhythm of the columns of Beton Hala, are one of the main pre-existing principles used in architectural concept. The position of the terrace, all along the river coast and above Beton Hala, allows it to connect some of the main functions of the area. The commercial building leans on the terrace and spreads south of the exhibition building. The shape references the existing architecture of Beton Hala with its own dynamic column rhythm that invites visitors inside. Exhibition building is set up on the northern part of the site. Since it has cultural and educational purpose, exhibition building demands position away from city streets with traffic noise. This kind of attractive location asks for attractive and monumental architecture. At the same time both function and remarkable shape are applied. Open space with unusual big and small “balls” inside and outside attracts visitors to investigate the space
