Blind Pass Park

Sweet Sparkman Architects as Architects

Located at Blind Pass Beach Park in Sarasota County and landward of the Coastal Construction Control Line, the new restroom pavilion is strategically located between an existing gazebo and a nearby playground. Elevated eight feet above the adjacent grade to the base flood elevation, the outdoor viewing deck is accessed by a suspended wood ramp that winds through exposed concrete columns. As one ascends up the ramp, the nearby intracoastal waterway is visible to the south. Environmentally sensitive, the design integrates large louvers around the building perimeter to allow for passive ventilation throughout the interior spaces. The fold of the roof directs rain water toward the cistern for rainwater harvesting. Captured rainwater will be used for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation.
