Cecil Beaton and the Celebrity Cult

PSCulture as Interior Architects

The General Staff Building of the Hermitage Museum presents the first retrospective of the 20th century iconic British photographer Cecil Beaton in Russia. The exhibition includes his most celebrated works, as well as quite rare pieces. Beaton's characters — the royal family, Hollywood stars, Russian ballerinas and military officers — embodied very different values, but were presented in the most complimentary manner.

Cecil Beaton knew how to reveal the brightest features of the person on the other side of the lens and he did it with a unique sense of harmony and style. His creative method was based on looking for and working with outstanding people. We tried to highlight this approach by means of composition and the choice of content. The most successful and prolific periods of Beaton's career are linked to his series on the British Royal Family and the main talents of a generation. They are grouped together in a central installation with a glass beads curtain.
