Modular project designed by architect Kika Camasmie, showcasing a convergence of sustainability and expertise in wood
Modular solutions that integrate functional design, conscious resource use, and elevate wood as the protagonist of construction
Recognized for her technical expertise in wooden constructions, architect Kika Camasmie, leading the Kika + Arq office, presents a modular project in Porto Seguro that combines innovation, respect for the environment, and efficient resource use. Her extensive experience with the material is reflected in every detail, from the selection of woods to the construction process, which values local craftsmanship while optimizing time and costs.
The project emerged from Kika's pursuit of creating modular solutions that are both functional and sustainable, highlighting wood as the primary building element. By utilizing specific and traditional carpentry techniques, she maximizes the material's characteristics, such as durability and flexibility, resulting in a dry and efficient construction system with quick and sustainable assembly.
With three distinct modules—suite module, kitchen module, and free module—the project adapts to different needs while maintaining the natural and cozy aesthetic provided by wood. In this case, pine was used, but it can be made from various types of wood. Each 32 m² (4x8) module is constructed with autoclaved pine pillars and beams, and round eucalyptus pilings, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable practices and high-quality materials..
The double walls of autoclaved pine not only provide efficient thermal and acoustic insulation but also offer practicality by housing hydraulic and electrical installations—an intelligent solution that integrates form and function. The front façade features wood and glass frames, creating a visual connection with the natural surroundings, while the articulated shutters on the rear façades promote cross-ventilation, a hallmark of Kika's designs that always aim to maximize environmental comfort.
The roof, made of autoclaved pine shingles with large eaves, protects the modules from direct sun exposure, and the elevated floor ensures the permeability of the land while creating a technical area to discreetly house the necessary equipment.
Another strong point of the project, aligned with Kika's philosophy of material reuse, is the use of wood scraps to create all the kitchen furniture, cabinets, and side tables, demonstrating a commitment to minimizing waste and sustainability. With this project, Kika Camasmie reaffirms her expertise in wooden constructions, offering solutions that engage with nature while addressing contemporary demands for comfort, functionality, and environmental responsibility.
