Don Cafe

The new Don Café, owned by the renowned restaurateur Josef Donhauser, is located in the entrance area of the new Skylink in Vienna-Schwechat. It offers a direct and unhindered view on the arriving and departing passengers – on those who are about to leave Vienna as well as on those, who have just landed and are heading out of the luggage area towards the persons meeting them. The task consists in creating an appealing, charming architectural environment within the unique Skylink.

The Don Café is located in an elegant, all-glass space, which stretches out over a length of 26 m, with a remarkable room height of 5 m and a width of 5 m, which poses a true architectural challenge. The main theme around which the design of the airport evolves, is the sophisticated contrast between the black color of the external monolith and the predominant white color on the inside of the building. This contrast becomes especially visible in the entrance area, on the intersection between the outside and the inside. In this context, the Don Café becomes a harmonious and integral part of the whole.

The longest bar furniture piece in Vienna was erected on a terrazzo-flooring and made out of white varnish with a stainless-steel countertop. The white, semi-transparent and translucent Venetian shutters provide for a comfortable, casual atmosphere within the stress and noise of modern-day travelling. The elegant, trendy armchairs - fully upholstered in black leather - offer relaxation and a cosy get-together. Enough space is provided for jackets, suitcases and other luggage.

Josef Donhauser, who is a professional confectioner and entrepreneur supplies the “atypical Viennese Coffee House” with exquisite goods from his own production. He remains true to his motto “from the countryside into the city and from there into the whole world”. Fresh sweet temptations and spicy delicacies are produced in Donhauser’s confectionery in Kirchberg/Wechsel and are delivered into the Don Café several times daily. From sweet, delicious cakes to a whole variety of innovative snacks by Reinhard Gerer the Don Café offers a great choice for every possible taste and desire.

Building on the qualities and popularity of Italian espresso- and bar-culture, the quick coffee enjoyment or the more comfortable socializing with a glass of wine become the stylish, unforgettable first or last impression of Vienna.
