Koning Willem I College presents its winning furniture designers

A few months ago Koning Willem I College from The Netherlands presented its students in Furniture Design with a daring challenge:

‘Design and manufacture a piece of furniture within the ‘Slow Design’ theme: longer processes of design, research and fine-tuning using local materials in local production, with due respect for the environment’

In addition to regional and recycled materials, students could also use existing designs or concepts. The results were judged by a select group of experts: Dutch designer Jeroen Wand, designer and teacher Raymond Hilhorst and managing director Bouw-Infra, Architectuur & Meubeldesign/ architect Paul Kokke.

The prize designs will be on display in Ventura Lambrate during the Designweek 2016. Also the winning students will be there. These talented youngsters are:

• Rick van Loon with ‘Chair-Desk’ (overall winner) • Micha van der Palen and Sten van Helvoort with ‘A little bit different’ • Eileen van de Laak with ‘Sawn Suitcase’ • Amber van Rooijen and Willemijn Ligthart with ‘Canned light’ • Thijs Swinkels with ‘CHANGE-IT!’

Koning Willem I College ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, is an innovative Community College with a wide variety of educational programs. One of these is Furniture Designer, where students are coached and trained in designing and manufacturing by experts from professional practice.

We hope to see you at Via Ventura 14, 20134 Milano
