An extension of a monumental house along the Vecht river in the old village of Maarssen, The Netherlands. The volume of the extension more or less repeats the main shape of the existing house. This new volume is visually seperated by a glass element with a 'bridge' in the roof to connect old and new and designed in a contemporary fashion. The extension with its modern language, the choice of a contrasting material for the facades and the roof (all in wood) , the minimalistic details and the abstract shape creates an appealing contrast between the original house and the new extension. The result is an extension with its own modest characteristic respecting the originally old house.
