On the 26th of June 2015, in the lively neighbourhood of Kreuzberg, FAB Architectural Bureau Berlin was inaugurated—the Fiandre, Ariostea and Porcelaingres showroom gallery. An innovative concept and a work-in-progress display will liven up the former Sarotti chocolate factory, giving a new face to the fourth Fiandre showroom in Europe dedicated to architecture and surfaces.
A prestigious, late 19th century building with an industrial soul was the setting chosen by the Fiandre-Iris Group to be the new location for the Fiandre, Ariostea and Porcelaingres showroom gallery. FAB Architectural Bureau Berlin, in fact, is set inside the former Sarotti Höfe chocolate factory, along one of the main arteries of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg cultural district. Exposed bricks and a large internal courtyard, make the area of over 1,000 m2 especially picturesque and evocative.
On the day of the vernissage, FAB Berlin was presented to the Fiandre guests as an empty space. Inside FAB, the area dedicated to Fiandre presented sala architettura Berlin, an innovative project that was started together with the curatorial team created by Blauraum, the Hamburg architectural studio, and Berlin’s sbca, the architecture communications agency. Sala architettura Berlin is organised as a calendar of workshops, followed by other events, whose outcome will in turn become Fiandre’s exhibition gallery. The project, which was started on the 26th of June 2015, will be a true work in progress and will finish in exactly one year, on the 26th of June 2016, with Tag der Architektur (Day of Architecture), when FAB Architectural Bureau Berlin will open to the public as a full display.
The project will be built and completed thanks to the cooperation of architects, scenographers, designers and other industry professionals who will be involved in each of the three studio themed workshops, which will focus on surfaces—including those signed Fiandre. Each meeting thus includes two workshop days and a third day to present the end result to the public as a vernissage/event. True to the spirit of FAB Architectural Bureau, even the Berlin location is preparing to become a creative and cultural gallery, to serve designers that can put forward concrete and cutting-edge solutions in the field of ceramic coatings, and contribute to the modern architecture debate.
