The mixed use building in Forchheim, Germany is located in the main and historical square of the city, at the heart of the city. The project is an example of a mixed use program composed of retail spaces on ground and first floor, office areas on the first floor and several apartments located on the second floor. The apartments will offer the opportunity of living in the inner city, in an "urban" way of life. The housing types should be high quality, medium-big size and attractive enough to bring new people to the inner city again. The proposed housing units are duplex-apartments with private terraces. The concept of living in all the units is the same, a central core of services and installations, which makes possible many settings throughout the time: from loft type, to standard hallway-bedrooms structure, to living and working... it's really a flexible living structure.
The main idea-hypothesis developed in the proposal is to resolve programatic and urban conflicts through a new and strong identity. The entry developes a creative model which derives its form from the mediaeval townscape with steep roofs and updated half-timbering walls. The scale and the type derives also from the surrounding areas.
