The PARIS HABITAT request for transformation of an Haussmann office building located in Paris into a social housing for young workers has been entrusted to the architects of the Phileas team.
Our work for that restructuring consisted of scooping out the building, dividing the large spaces of reception and compartmentalize it into 126 cells, all different because of the original and structural identity of the construction.
The apartments are distributed on six floors, around a central corridor. The very particular haussmanian façade has been preserved. That project has been the opportunity for us to think about the agreements between series and ornamentation. In reference to XIXth century stuccos and moulding, we choose to re-introduce some details into that contemporary social housing. To avoid the repetitiveness, we invited four artists, photographers, Frédéric Delangle, Valerie Sanfratello, Christoph Sillem and Laure Vasconi to dress each door with an oversize original picture.
