Perched mid-height at the heart of Central London in Holborn, this natural roof garden is all about Mother Nature. Brimming with sprawling plants & teeming with denizen wildlife, this space is a London retreat for our Australian clients who run a large reserve in Brogers Creek, NSW.
Ablaze in autumn, redolent in winter, energised in spring & full of summer festivities, this untamed roof garden celebrates nature full-on. Urban roof terraces are where environmental stewardship is so vital, to support fauna with biodiversity, sympathetic maintenance & recyclable materials, as we should nurse, safeguard & conserve nature.
30 bespoke planters create varied zones to lounge, sunbathe and dine, snuggled by plants everywhere. There’s an awning, hammock, furniture & bifolding doors which connect the roof garden to the penthouse apartment in an indoor-outdoor flow.
There are many trees, edibles, herbs, natives, bulbs, grasses & perennials here, as a total of 90 unique species over 75sqm in a seriously broad biodiversity, while a third of the species are trees. Hazelnut, Almond, Strawberry tree, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, along Witch Hazel, Willow, Buddleja, Elderberry & Winter sweet are underplanted with 10 grass species, Primrose, Cyclamen, Scabiosa, Armeria, Campanula, Stachys & Viola to name a few perennials.
We practise organic maintenance here, introducing annelids and nematodes, hand weeding, using peat-free soil, composting and rainwater harvesting, avoiding pesticides & herbicides & avoiding pruning until spring to sustain winter fodder & shelter for biota.
