The residential project is located in the rural countryside of the western territory of Sardinia. This area is characterized mostly by plain terrain, utilized for farming and grazing, interspersed with densely populated rural areas of small and medium-size, surrounded by scattered farm houses.
The primary client requirement was on the residential area and on the new building structure intended for the production activities related to the agricultural cultivation of the surrounding terrain. Keeping in mind the particularity of the given territory, it was decided to design a different type of courtyard architecture, with the buildings arranged around a central space, oriented taking in account the solar radiation and wind direction.
This historical building, surveyed, studied and catalogued over time by various authors, among whom it is worth remembering Baldacci (see O. Baldacci, The cottage in Sardinia, Florence 1952), Mossa (cf. V. Mossa, Domestic Architecture in Sardinia, Cagliari 1957) and Angioni - Sanna (see Angioni G. and A. Sanna, The folk architecture in Italy. Sardinia, Bari, 1988), the project is revisited and reinterpreted with a contemporary architectural touch, under the light of new changing needs. Particular attention has been paid, to install a plant designed to reduce energy consumption of the building, according to current regulations.
