Inbo wins bidding Waterfront downtown Shanghai

INBO as Architects

Huangpu River Banks Development selected Inbo and its Chinese partner NITA to design the master plan for the sustainable large scale Xin Hua Pudong waterfront development in the very heart of Shanghai.

The 45ha development location on the Huangpu river is located right across the Bund and in the international business district of Pudong, known for its landmark broadcast tower. The winning low-carbon design by Inbo-NITA entails a marina and a green riverside park with a mixed urban program of about 750.000m2. The green fingers of the park penetrate and interact with the surrounding urban area. The integrated design generates unique conditions for exclusive residential and office buildings, shopping malls and leisure. By instilling some of the existing buildings with cultural functions, the development reflects the emerging re-appreciation and re-use of cultural historical heritage throughout China.

Shanghai Huangpu River Banks Development Investment Construction works on an integrated development along the Huangpu riverfront. It aims to transform its former industrial land-use into a vibrant mixed urban area. The entire Huangpu redevelopment area covers over 22 square kilometers and succeeded the Expo 2010 as one of Shanghai’s main focuses in urban development.

Over 300 employees of Inbo and NITA jointly provide the Asian market with high-end architecture, urban strategy, landscape architecture and engineering. Inbo is well known for its designs for the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven and its Belvédère Museum in Oranjewoud. NITA was responsible for the park design of the Shanghai Expo 2010 and the Chinese pavilion at the Floriade in Venlo (The Netherlands).
