This house is about nostalgia. For a young family with three young boys. The father talked fondly in our early meetings about his childhood home, about his beach holidays and about trying to bring some of those memories into his new home.
The house sits on a hill overlooking the city.
We took a nursery rhyme, a childhood memory, the story Jack & Jill and used this as our starting point.
We designed the new spaces, like Jack & Jill, to tumble down the hill, to break apart and spill open to the view and the sun.
We referenced the colour palette from the "little golden book" , we built parts of the joinery with bands of steel holding the timber together like the "pail of water".
