Maison Kieffer (The house of the Kieffer Family)

Luxembourg based architects STEINMETZDEMEYER designed this contemporary residence in the small town of Filsdorf in Luxembourg, within a traditional neighborhood.

The building’s shape follows historical architecture forms with its gabled roof in a contemporary style, with elegant red cedar cladding on all surfaces of the exterior. Black cement fiber panels on side elevations interrupt the wooden skin of the house.

Inside, white walls and furniture contrast the heavier and darker exterior, just as the minimalist look of the hanging light fixtures and kitchen cabinets offsets the detailed and nuanced cedar grain.Large glass doors open to the garden and patio at the ground floor, while at the upper level a long dormer window optimizes use of space, light and views. The master and guest bedroomsretain the character of the gable from the interior
