MARINA BAY CRUISE CENTRE SINGAPORE

MARINA BAY CRUISE CENTRE SINGAPORE

RSP as Architects

The collaboration between RSP Architects, Planners & Engineers (RSP) and Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc (BA) resulted in the iconic architectural design of Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS). RSP led the design of the architectural form, interior design and details of both the terminal and carpark buildings, while BA, with its specialised experience in cruise terminal design, is primarily responsible for the logistics and functional design of the internal facilities, passenger and traffic flow.

The main challenge of designing MBCCS was to dress an essentially large, low and flat building form to achieve a distinctive profile visible from a distance. The MBCCS’s function and setting naturally lends itself to a nautical theme. The roofscape responds to the aquatic theme with a cubistic interpretation of waves as a series of undulating roof forms. Natural light has been strategically introduced to brighten up the entire terminal hall.

MBCCS will add and complement several other downtown developments which have, and will become icons of Singapore’s skyline, such as the Business Financial Centre, Marina Bay Integrated Resort, Singapore Flyer, Esplanade, and Gardens by the Bay. Together, they present Singapore as an ultimate destination with world-class attractions, infrastructure and leisure facilities.

RSP is one of the largest and most established architectural and engineering professional practices in Singapore. Together with affiliates, it provides comprehensive professional building consultancy services in architecture, planning, urban design, civil & structural & mechanical & electrical engineering and interior design with offices in Malaysia, India, China, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Ghana and a combined group staff strength in excess of 1500, RSP have undertaken an extensive portfolio of projects across many development types ranging from residential, hotel, hospital, commercial, institutional, mixed developments and key infrastructure projects such as airports and cruise terminals.
