The “Midsummer Pixel” exhibition is a colourful, life-affirming narrative about sustainable design and a selection of passionate companies that combine authentic tradition with innovative vision. The exhibition showcase design products that highlight the concept of sustainability in various ways: rugs, textiles, seating, tables and lamps, all of which are ecolabelled or meet similar criteria. They also share a long-term approach and emphasise the companies’ constant efforts to further their own environmental work. All the design products have been created with the stated aim of lasting for a long term and having as little impact as possible on nature and the environment.
Why Interface? As one of the world’s most environmentally progressive companies the choise of floor for Midsummer Pixel was easy.
The Challenge The design of the floor was to use pastell colours and to place them in a natural flow from blue, purple, green, yellow, orange and pink. This was a challange, just to make it work. Together with this, we had to make it work with other textiles and in a hotel lobby where many people come and go all day long. The lobby also has a bar and coffee and drinks and it had to be functional for that aim also.
The Result The inauguration of the lobby was a real success and lots of people were invited and loved to see how colourful a hotel lobby could be. It was really something odd and different from how hotel lobbys normally look traditionally today.
