SAKO Architects as Architects

The paper snowstorm. Being full of praying words, transient, beautiful. Paper is far smaller divided than surroundings, fly up in the air and disappear in deep space.

Flat and blank view crosses through Beijing economic ? technological development area. Large block, wide road and low density offices of large scale manufacturer, all of these are not very good for living. In another word, it is not a happy place to walk around.

Beijing Mosaic is located in such a place, reinforced concrete was built till 4th story and then stopped for a long time. The emptiness made the image of that area worse. It had been planned as a multiple function with office building on the top of store at the very beginning. However, since there is no mature business atmosphere out there in that area, therefore the project had been stopped, and then developer wanted us restart, renovate and convert it.

Cannot this large volume become a land mark of the economic - technological zoon? In order to enlarge business circle, presence need to be shown up comparing to other places.

The motif of MOSAIC has been used everywhere. Paper snowstorm flies up, light, weak, transient, but clear, full of actual feelings of existence. Office was changed into one room apartment, and store would be sold to tenant. It says, mosaic is also meaning a collection of small capital.

The facade of 4th story store will be occupied by inside lighting ads, therefore it achieves a goal of lifeline in where tenant could show their existence to outside people. And the same, motif is hiding behind as well.

There are 2 moving lines being added into store. Main entrance seems a large opening mouth to the outside, and people can access directly from B1 to 3rd floor. People’s moving and other various view are divided, amplified, or radiated through complicated reflecting faces.

The motif of mosaic is running through sign, landscape as well as interior.
