In today’s fast paced, stress ridden and volatile life, what would be most relieving than to have a house with a vibrant open design? Located in Mumbai, with an area of approx. 1270 sq.ft; this residence pushes forward an intelligent urban design for an easy modern day living. The objective and idea behind was to conquer the irregularity present in the site space, transforming it into a cohesive modern design. The main challenge was to put forth a progressive design evolving from this irregular shape formed in the process of combining the two adjacent flats thus creating various pockets in the long living room. So the design revolved around this irregularity, creating a vibrant composition perfectly expressing elegance and style with a stamp of creative impression. As one enters the living area, the furniture stands out with its unique seating structure and sets up to carve an explorative approach to spatial living. Functionally divided into a breakfast area, a formal dining space, a cluster for general seating and a much cosier seating corner, the living area sets an example for a barrier free living approach. The apartment has been deconstructed to form an open plan space, where the living area, the dining area and the formal living space merge into one entity, but with a distinctive separation to form an offbeat identity of their own. The apartment is a synonym for an apt urbane living built on asymmetry yet celebrating freedom of thought and space. Overall, a refreshing design created by breaking the monotony of rigid closures of a tight apartment space.
