The center of Berlin faces a massive change. The vivid mixture of the inner city is jeopardized by an ongoing gentrification process with shops and chain stores. To sustain the district through culture Pott Architects presents a non-commercial utilization concept for one of the last vacant sites in central Scheunenviertel.
This study demonstrates how the landmark ensemble of the former Jewish Girls school in Auguststraße can be converted into a vivid museum district. The buildings are preserved in their historical structure and renovated sensitively. A central public plaza and an underground exhibition hall will be added. The resulting museum district could become a sustainable open cultural forum in Berlin’s Scheunenviertel.
