The building for the new RNE Headquarters in Barcelona aims to solve the basically administration use, but also writing and issuing of programmes, inside a 5-story rectangular volume with a free plan all along its perimeter. The building is placed in an area planned for equipments inside a block integrated in the reconverting industrial Poble Nou neighbourhood, qualified as 22@.
The proposed building is a rectangular volume with a central core for communication and services. This situation allows for the biggest profit from the façade surface. This same core connects with the underground floor destined for the parking of cars and mobile units, as well as some installation rooms. For the façades a single module able to give some thickness to the perimeter and allowing the possibility to introduce sunlight control elements to the requiring façades was designed. This single module aims to solve the joint with the interior compartmentation, the natural lighting of all rooms and the restricted acces to a perimetral maintenance footbridge that acts at the same time as a brie-soleil where façades require protection.
The structure is designed as a matrix of rectangular concrete columns with spans from 5.5 to 7 meters, and floors with concrete slabs. Inside this matrix appears the communication core as a fixed element that through its structural walls contributes to the building’s stability. This core is surrounded by services, technical rooms and shafts for systems and piping, creating a central frame around which the uses are distributed with dry-built walls.
