The new Education Centre for the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE, Preston, is designed to be friendly, environmentally sound and accessible, while providing a high quality teaching environment for teachers and students. The single volume form is articulated by a combination of glazing, aluminium and colorbond along the facade, creating a prominent street frontage presence that will enhance the public exposure and profile of the Institute. The design responds to innovative education models with particular reference to: - Design which promotes well-being and encourages efficient work practices - Outdoor and activity areas to encourage learning and social interaction - Natural light with connections to the external environment - Clear way finding systems - A sense of place and identity for each learning zone
